I can so relate to the notion of watching things that you shouldn't! (Top of my list of things I should never, ever have watched is The War Zone, a film that Tim Roth directed.)
Mysterious Skin was really well done, but it had far too much hurt, and not enough comfort, so it stung a bit.
I find myself reading / watching a lot of media that tackles these themes. It used to be deliberately for the sting, but now it's because I like seeing people come out the other side, even if everything isn't perfect.
I'm glad that this fic wasn't something that stung you, and hope (if it isn't too presumptuous) that life is being a lot kinder to you now.
