This was so beautiful, and I love that it took time for them to get where they did at the end.
These lines--
"Can I hold you?"
"Of course." Arthur's voice was stiff, and he flicked his eyes away from Eames's.
Eames tucked his hand under his own pillow and inhaled. "Do you want me to?"
There was a long silence, and then Arthur shook his head. "No," he breathed, and it was so quiet that, as close as their heads were, Eames almost missed it. Almost missed the knowledge that he was trusted blossoming in his chest.
--absolutely killed me. That Eames actually thought to ask the follow-up question is a HUGE FUCKING DEAL and resonated with me more than anything. This kind of trauma isn't triggery for me or anything, but I'm not the most touchy-feely kind of person in general and in sensitive situations that aversion can be totally cranked up.
I'm so glad you saw Mysterious Skin and decided to write your own crossover, because it's one of the best out there!
ETA: And I almost forgot to say, not only that Eames thought to ask, but understood/took Arthur's answer in terms of trust rather than distrust!!! So heartwarming and bittersweet and absolutely lovely!
