I have fallen pretty hard for Friday Night Lights, and would definitely commend it to anyone who hasn't already found out they don't like it.

I am a huge fan of stylised, clever writing a la Joss Whedon or Aaron Sorkin, but the naturalism of dialogue in Friday Night Lights completely blew me away. I loved The Wire, and the way that it constructed a sprawling, complex, completely believable world. FNL, while being a completely different programme, has hit that same button. I've only watched one season and the show has created a dense, emotionally rich landscape with fabulous characters and heroism and amazing women.

There is a bit of a dearth of fic, but there seems to be a very high awesome:other stuff ratio. Like this:

Beautiful look at Tyra Collette's life. I love Tyra, and so does Lauren, and she has written something rich and lovely.

Matt Saracen / Smash Williams, but this is mostly about Matt and college and coming out. And this description in no way does justice to how perfect and true this fic is.

Julie Taylor / Tyra Collette, but mainly about Julie realising something about herself. And then Tami Taylor (one of my favourite characters, ever) doing the very best that she can. Gorgeous, and sad because Dillon is what it is.

In the Aftermath by K4writer02

After State, Billy Riggins finds out what happened to Tyra Collette during 'Mud Bowl'. I misread the pairing on this fic, and I'm glad I did. This is awfully good quality hurt/comfort. Even if the 'comfort' part is somewhat at a distance. Is 'hurt/other people giving a crap' even a genre? (Warning: discussion of attempted rape.)

It Ain't Small by Nat1

Tyra Collette talks to Landry, after the events of 'Mud Bowl', about she and Tim Riggins and friendship. This is quiet, and still and affecting. (Warning: pretty oblique discussion of attempted rape.)
